![]() Chris McCraw grew up in McKinney and his family has a rich history in Collin County. His ancestors came to Collin County in the 1840's and have resided here ever since. An article by McKinney historian Roy F. Hall in the Original Handbook of Texas discusses frontiersman & Texas Ranger John Yeary, Chris McCraw's great-great-great-great grandfather:
"In 1844 Yeary was one of five commissioners who selected the right-of-way for the Central National road of the Republic of Texas. Impressed with the area Covered on his survey for the road, he moved to Collin County, about a half mile from the present Farmersville, Texas."
Yeary was awarded 640 acres in Hunt County for overseeing the large surveying job of blazing a road from the Red River near Ft. Towson, Oklahoma to what is now the center of Dallas, Texas. He was a militia Captain, participant in several frontier Indian fights and was one of the founders of Farmersville, Texas. ![]() Chris McCraw and his family continue to have strong roots in Collin County and serve the community. Chris's father, Judge John McCraw, Jr., previous appellate judge for the fifth court of appeals, still works in Collin County as a visiting judge and mediator. Both of Chris's brothers, Lin McCraw & Mark McCraw along with cousin Bryan Gantt, are practicing trial attorneys and are founders of the McCrawGantt Lawfirm in McKinney, Texas.
